Thank you for considering coming on board with Wood & Co. We are looking forward to seeing if this is a good match for you. We want to build with the people who want to grow as well. This company has four tiers of employment, and we are ready and willing to train you to the level you want to achieve. 

Our projects mainly focus on remodeling in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Our work will consist of the full array of standard remodeling construction in commercial and residential spaces.

Compensation will be directly tied to five core pillars: 

1. Skill Level

2. Independence

This framework is designed to give everyone a completely transparent path to advance their career and earn more money. 

This document gives you the exact blueprint for how your skills and tool sets tie to your earning potential. And your roadmap to higher earnings is laid out for you to pursue. You will increase your earnings as your skills and toolsets expand. 

Higher pay comes with higher independence, and having the right tools to perform efficiently is a major part of that.

Employment Position Levels -- Core Qualifications

  1. Independence:     Ability to execute work.
  2. Production:     Speed, efficiency, and maintenance of job schedules.
  3. Quality:     Attention to detail, integrity, and craftsmanship.
  4. Reliability:     Punctuality, consistent attendance, and strong communication.
  5. Problem      Solving: Identifying field challenges and executing smart solutions.
  6. Tool      Ownership: Investing in the proper gear required to perform at your      desired tier.
  7. Leadership:     Mentoring junior staff, managing subs, and professional client      interaction.

General Tool Framework

To perform efficiently, production staff are expected to invest in their own setups gradually based on their tier.

  • Company      provides: Expensive specialty tools, trade-specific large equipment,      consumables (blades, bits, sandpaper), dust control/HEPA vacuums, shared      lasers, and commercial-grade specialty equipment.
  • Employees      provide: Everyday hand tools, personal cordless platform, personal      organization/storage, and core trade tools appropriate to their current employment      level.

Detailed Tier Breakdown

Level 1: Apprentice / Laborer

Core Definition: Learns the trade and maintains jobsite efficiency under direct supervision.

  • Expected      Skills: Jobsite cleanup, safe material handling, demolition, basic      measuring, assisting installers, and learning company safety      protocols/workflows.
  • Outside      employment: Eligible to hold outside employment that takes priority      over this position, subject to open communication of availability.

Required Personal Setup (Approx. Investment: $150–$400)

  • Tool      belt or basic tool bag
  • 25’      Tape measure
  • Utility      knife (with spare blades)
  • 16oz      or 20oz Framing/Smooth hammer
  • Speed      square
  • Pencils      / permanent markers
  • Channel      lock pliers
  • Flathead      & Phillips screwdrivers
  • Nail      puller / pry bar
  • Personal      PPE (Safety glasses, work gloves, knee pads)

Level 2: Installer Tier 1

Core Definition: Can stay productive independently on standard tasks with moderate oversight.

  • Expected      Skills: Performs basic flooring, tile, and drywall installations;      reads and records measurements flawlessly; handles simple tasks with      minimal direction.
  • Outside      employment: Eligible to hold outside employment that takes priority      over this position, subject to open communication of availability.

Required Personal Setup (Approx. Investment: $600–$1,500)

Includes all Level 1 tools, plus:

  • Chalk      line
  • Torpedo      level & 2’ Level
  • Cats      paw (nail extractor)
  • Aviation      snips
  • Nail      sets
  • Multi-bit      screwdriver
  • Adjustable      wrench set
  • Professional-grade      caulk gun
  • Putty      knives & Drywall taping knives (6", 8", 10")
  • Cordless      flashlight or headlamp
  • Power      Tools: Cordless drill/driver combo, Cordless circular saw, and Cordless      oscillating multi-tool.

Level 3: Installer Tier 2 / Skilled Tradesperson

Core Definition: An independent producer who solves field problems and delivers high-end finish work.

  • Expected      Skills: Complete independent execution of tasks, strong production      pace, solid understanding of job sequencing, minimal supervision required,      and ability to troubleshoot standard field challenges.
  • Outside      Employment: Outside commitments must not conflict with regular Wood      & Co. project schedules; this position requires primary availability      priority.
  • Vehicle      Expectation: Reliable independent transportation; expected to      transport own tools and handle occasional small material runs.

Required Personal Setup (Approx. Investment: $2,000–$5,000+)

Includes all Level 1 & 2 tools, plus:

  • Personal      laser level
  • 4’      Level or larger layout levels
  • Full      socket and wrench sets
  • Assorted      jobsite clamps
  • Specialty      layout tools & tile tools specific to your core trade
  • Premium      tool storage/organization system (e.g., Packout or heavy-duty bags)
  • Power      Tools: Jigsaw, finish Nailer, oscillating saw, and small jobsite      compressor setup (optional/as needed).

Level 4: Lead Installer / Lead Carpenter

Core Definition: Runs jobs profitably and protects the company's reputation without owner involvement.

  • Expected      Skills: Full project management, subcontractor coordination,      professional client relations, proactive material planning,      managing/mentoring apprentices, strict schedule awareness, and absolute      callback prevention.
  • Outside      Employment: Not allowed during regular work hours. Primary availability priority during      standard operating hours is required to properly manage projects,      subcontractors, and client relations.
  • Vehicle      & Professional Expectations: Reliable truck or work van,      immaculate professional appearance, strong verbal/written communication,      and proactive schedule oversight.

Required Personal Setup (Approx. Investment: $5,000–$15,000+)

Includes all Level 1, 2, & 3 tools, plus:

  • Full,      professional-tier cordless tool platform
  • Advanced      lasers and precision layout equipment
  • Comprehensive      jobsite organization and mobile workstation systems
  • Advanced      trade-specific specialty tools (high-end finish and punch-list detail      tools)
  • Digital      literacy (Ability to access plans, track schedules, or use an iPad/tablet      for job management)

Lead Installer Performance Incentives

In addition to the base hourly rate, Level 4 Lead Installers are eligible for project-based performance bonuses. This program is designed to reward efficiency, leadership, and elite quality.

  • Project      Efficiency Bonus: Leads can earn 10-20% of the total savings on      any project where on-site labor and subcontractor costs come in under     the initial estimated project budget.
  • Milestone      & Quality Delivery: Flat-rate bonuses ranging from $100 to $2,500+     per project, awarded for hitting critical schedule deadlines with zero      client punch-list items or post-job callbacks.
  • Client      Satisfaction Reward: A $250 spot bonus awarded whenever a      client names the Lead directly in a 5-star company review or final project      survey.

Compensation breakdown

Finder’s bonus

In addition to the hourly compensation tiers, there is also an incentive to earn commission income. Any employee who finds a person or company that ends up hiring Wood & Co. for their project will receive a compensation of 5% of the total job price. 1% will be paid on the day the production starts, and the remaining 4% will be paid the day the job is closed out. There is no obligation to participate in the process of finding new project opportunities.

Level 2: Installer Tier 1


$22.00 – $26.00 / hr


Executes standard tasks independently, basic installs,   level 2 tool set, and moderate supervision.

 

Level 3: Installer Tier 2


$26.00 – $32.00 / hr


High production pace, understands sequencing, level 3   tools set and requires minimal supervision.

 

Level 4: Lead Installer / Carpenter


$32.00 – $40.00+ / hr


Runs projects, coordinates sub trades, manages clients,   full cache lead’s tool set, and ensures profitability.

Note: To qualify for any project bonus, the job must be completed safely, up to Wood & Co. quality standards, and be entirely free of structural or cosmetic callbacks.
